Mario Rom - Piano

Born in Vienna

First piano lessons at the age of four.
Piano studies at the Vienna Konservatorium with Roland Batik, Julika Behar and David Lutz, and at the Vienna University of Music under Antoinette von Zabner. Graduation in Piano Pedagogy (1994), Vocal Accompaniment and Chamber Music (1995) and Piano Performance (1999), all with distinction.

Masterclasses and further studies in solo playing as well as chamber music at the Sandor Vegh Academy (Prague), the Oxford Arts Center (Canada), and at the Vienna University for Music under Agnes Grossmann, Stefan Vladar, Menahem Pressler and with members of the Alban Berg Quartet and the Vienna Haydn Trio.

Prizes in various international music competitions as pianist in the VIENNarte trio. Finalist at the 1998 International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich.

Numerous CD and radio recordings with the VIENNarte trio (Chateau de Lourmarin, Campanella Musica/SFB). Further CD´s in various duo partnerships: with Wolfgang Schulz (flute), Kurt Franz Schmid (clarinet), Lela Wiche (soprano) and with Peter Rom (electric guitar).

Since 1991 active performer in the roles of soloist, chamber musician and lied accompanist in many European countries, in South America and also in Japan, India, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Oman.

Concerts in Vienna´s Musikverein and the Vienna Konzerthaus in the concert series Musica Juventutis, Podium for the Young, Jeunesse musicale, Vienna Klangbogen, at the Vienna Radio Kulturhaus, Palace Mirabell in Salzburg, Brucknerhaus Linz, at the Salzburger Mozartwoche, and at the Bonheur Musical (France), Regensburger Musiksommer, Rheingau and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festivals (Germany).

Regular chamber music engagements with members of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras; soloist with the Vienna Kammerensemble.

Since 2003 teaching position in the Vienna Musikschule network. Lecturer at the Vienna Music Seminar, Lichtenwörther Music Summer, and at the Joseph-Matthias-Hauer Konservatorium in Wiener Neustadt together with Kurt Franz Schmid.
